5 Ways to Reduce Waste

earth glass jars reduce waste zero waste

Each day, more and more people contribute to the growing waste problem in the world. As a community, it is important to find the best ways to eliminate waste on our planet. If you are struggling to find the “perfect solution,” don’t worry, we have great tips to help you out.

Go from disposable to reusable

This is one of the easiest ways to eliminate waste on Earth. Don’t worry! It is quite easy to find reusable solutions at places we shop at every day. Items, such as reusable water bottles and grocery bags, are the easiest to find. Also, if you catch a cool event, it is possible to get these items for free! Already have these items? There are also creative ways to reuse items you already have at home. In case you didn't know, all of Spring Tyde’s jars are glass (which means they are easily reusable). Spring Tyde believes in the power of reusing, so we encourage everyone to repurpose their jars into anything you can think of.

Go Paperless

Literally every company today seems to encourage their supporters to “go paperless.” By allowing your documents to be sent to your email, will help to reduce the waste on our planet. Also, you will help to save water, cut down on pollution, and save our beautiful trees.

When grocery shopping opt for bulk items

Instead of buying prepackaged fruits, vegetables, and nuts, go to the outer sections of the grocery store to stock up. Not only will you save a pretty penny, but you will also help to lower the amount of plastic waste. If you want to cut down on even more waste, some grocery stores allow customers to use their containers (jars and bags) to place your items in.

Shop with a good mind

Everyone today wants to “flex” and show off their new outfits, whether in person or via social media. Often, many people choose to wear an outfit once because too many people saw them wearing that outfit. This became the rise of “fast fashion.” Many companies create clothes that are meant to be worn once, so their customers can come back to buy more clothes. However, fast fashion is helping to create more waste on Earth. According to the New York Times, “More than 60 percent of fabric fibers are now synthetics, so if and when our clothing ends up in a landfill, it will not decay.”

When shopping for clothes, try to shop smart. Instead of buying an item that can only be worn once, opt for something you know you will wear more than once. Such items include simple white and black t-shirts, blue jeans, cardigans. Don’t worry! It’s not as boring as it seems. Buying simple allows your true style to pop. You will be able to put together several different styles without breaking the bank. Another great way to shop smart is to buy items from thrift and consignment stores. You’ll most likely be able to find something no one else has! If you have to buy that new trendy top, once you are done wearing it give it away or sell it. Apps, such as Poshmark, allow users to easily buy and sell secondhand items.

When in doubt, Biodegradable does the trick

Biodegradable items are able to break down, unlike plastic. If you have the option try to choose the biodegradable product over a regular plastic item. Believe it or not, several of our everyday items are biodegradable. Some of those items include certain body washes, laundry detergent, and tobacco grinders.

There are many other ways to reduce waste and save our planet, but these are small and easy steps that'll get you started. Now that you are aware, go out, and help to save our beautiful home!
